Thank you for visiting this website from among the many others available. This website provides technical information on geometric optics and wave optics that is useful for optical design. I hope that through this website you will find it interesting to learn about the field of optics.

About me

  • My major in university and graduate school was electronic engineering. My specialty at that time was semiconductor research, and in the 1990s I was involved in the launch of the field of spintronics, which was a very valuable experience. At that time I had not yet encountered optical design, but around that time I had some experience with weak light detection, polarization measurement, and time-resolved measurement.

  • After completing my master's degree at graduate school, I joined a certain optical device manufacturer. I encountered optical design and became fascinated by it. I have now been involved in optical design for over 20 years.

  • The design software I use for optical design has been CODE-V, OpTaliX, and now ZEMAX. However, since this website deals with basic theory, I will not touch on specific designs. Since this is purely a personal hobby, I am careful not to leak any know-how I have gained from my work at the company.

  • In 2015, I obtained the "silver" level of the Optical Engineering Examination (International Optical Engineers Certification Association) (although it is purely a hobby as it is not something I can use for work).

  • I love mathematics, and passed the pre-first grade of the mathematics examination (The Mathematics Certification Institute of Japan, called SUKEN) in 2008. I think that many of the topics I deal with on this website have a mathematical approach, so I hope to be able to convey the usefulness and fun of mathematics.

I am the one who runs this site. There is not much content yet, but I plan to gradually increase the amount of content in the future. I would be happy if you would add this site to your "favorites" and visit it from time to time.
